A post by Mrs. Cassie Sparks, Razorback Spirit Extraordinaire…
You can call me a little bias because I am married to a former mascot of the University of Arkansas, but we like to say in the SEC, “football is a religion.” If football is a religion then tailgating is most definitely church.
Tailgating is almost as important as the game itself. 5am wake up calls for a night game and being decked out in Frogg Toggs for a rainy day are just a couple of the normalcys of seasoned tailgating in Arkansas.
If you are new to the area or new to SEC football all together you just need some simple tailgating tips. First, you need to know where to find the perfect game day outfit. The girls at Riff Raff boutique on the Fayetteville Square are the sweetest and are going to hook you up with everything you need. Every season they even have a game day look book that helps you style their pieces for game day outfits.
Next, be ready to make friends with the people tailgating and sitting around you. My favorite thing about game day is the people I am surrounded by. My husband and I have had the same season tickets for three years now and the couple who has season tickets behind us are now some of our best friends. We tailgate with them now, get together on the weekends, and are involved in the community together. Tailgating has truly bonded us for life.
Make sure you have some great gear. If you are serious about tailgating, I promise you will not regret the purchase of a YETI cooler, Kijaro chairs, and a tent with your team logo on it. Every man gets extra punches in his man card when he gets a YETI and they keep ice for the entire season (okay, not really – but you see where I’m going with that). The Kijaro chairs are very spacious and are so durable they won’t have you running to Walmart next season to get another chair.
The most important thing you can learn to prepare for Razorback tailgating is to call the Hogs. Learn it. Embrace it. You will never regret this decision. Once you have done that there is nothing holding you back from heading to Donald W. Reynolds stadium to conquer a day full of tailgating and football. #WPS
